Abstract
The projectile consists of a tubular body (10), of a cap (16) which breaks at the start of the shot, a delivery casing (14) which detaches at the exit of the gun, and a forcing belt (12). At the front end, the internal and external surfaces of the body (10) are conical and delimit a leading edge whose angle is between 5 DEG and 15 DEG . The passage cross-section inside the body decreases from the front towards a cylindrical constricted region, the ratio between these passage cross-sections in the constricted region and at the entry being at least 0.65, but less than 1, and the ratio between the maximum wall thickness and the half-calibre of the projectile being between 0.18 and 0.45. The conditions of flow in the tubular body are such that the drag is low in a first part of the trajectory, but increases sharply when the Mach number has fallen to a particular value, which makes the projectile particularly useful as a training projectile. <IMAGE>
