Abstract
Dioxydiethyl sulphide is heated with an organic acid or acid anhydride and the resulting ester isolated by distillation in vacuo. According to examples, the diformyl ester is obtained by using formic acid and the diacetyl ester by using acetic anhydride, or glacial acetic acid. Esters of other acids such as benzoic or phthalic acids are prepared by the use of the corresponding acid anhydrides. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to the use of dilute acetic acid for ester formation. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
