Abstract

154,594. Boyer, F. Nov. 29, 1919, [Convention date]. Pile-fabric looms; vertical looms.-A pile-thread holder for looms for weaving pile carpets is provided with a clamp which seizes the pile thread when it is introduced into the warps and holds it fast until the formation of the knot is completed and thereby supports the warps independently of the knotting-tools proper, so that their lateral divergence is prevented. Pile thread 2, Fig. 17, is guided by a thread-guide 3 into grippers 4, 5 which close and grip the thread. The guide 3 moves upwards, carrier pins 6 move towards the warps 1, and the guide moves to cause the thread to be at an angle to the pins. Hooks 7, movable in guides 8, then move between the warps and seize the ends of the pile thread, two warps being between each pair of hooks 7. The guide 3 moves away, the pile thread is severed by a knife 11, and the grippers 4, 5 are released. When the hooks 7, clamping the pile thread against the guides 8, return to draw it through the warps, slotted beakshaped pile-thread holders 31 advance towards the warps and a clamping-bar 36 having slotted clamping-pins 40 is raised, so that the pile threads enter between the parts 31, 40, Fig. 19, and are clamped therein, each clamping-pin 40 and the corresponding holder 31 being situated midway between the two hooks. The hooks 7 with their guides 8 then move laterally and a hook 9 movable in a guide 10 advances between the warps, seizes one end of the pile thread, and retires. The hooks 7 then move laterally in the opposite direction and the hook 9 is again advanced and seizes the other end of the pile thread. The hook 9 then clamps both ends of the pile thread against the guide 10 and draws them through the warps to form a knot as shown in Fig. 12. The clamping-bar then rises to release the pile thread, the hook 9 tightens the knotted pile thread and releases its ends. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 15548/00.
