Abstract

153,967. Wolseley Motors, Ltd., and Leeding, E. J. Aug. 18, 1919. Guarding against unauthorized use. - The steering-wheel is locked by means of a key-operated bolt mounted in a casing parallel with the steering-shaft and adapted to engage a recess in the nave of the steering-wheel. The bolt is fitted with contacts to short-circuit, or interrupt, the ignition circuit. The bolt b<2> is mounted in a casing b and is normally pressed into its dirangaged position by a coiled spring b<1> arranged between a shoulder on the bolt and a bush b<3>. The bolt is operated by an arm e on the spindle E of a barrel lock and engages a recess a<3> formed in the nave of the steering-wheel. The lower end of the bolt is fitted with a spring contact member c which normally engages contact members c<1> in the ignition circuit. When the bolt is operated, the circuit is broken. The contacts may be arranged so as to short-circuit the ignition when the bolt is operative. The bolt is provided with a transverse projection which engages recesses in the casing to lock the bolt in its operative and idle positions. It is pressed transversely by a spring and is released from engagement with these recesses by pressure of the key.
