Abstract

1537265 Screw sockets RAWLPLUG CO Ltd 22 March 1976 [24 March 1975] 12201/75 Heading F2H A sheet-metal fastening element for use with a screw to secure an article to a panel comprises two legs 1, 2 connected together at one end by a transverse portion 7 having a plain hole (9) (Fig. 3, not shown) for receiving the screw, portions 6 of the legs adjacent said one end forming struts and being joined by transition portions 5 to the remainder 4 of the legs. In use the transverse portion 7, the strut portions 6, and the transition portions 5 are passed through a hole in the panel to project behind the panel, and the screw engaging in the hole (9) is tightened to draw the transverse portion 7 towards the panel so that the transition portions 5 extend radially outwardly behind the panel, while the strut portions 6 are not deformed. The free ends of the legs have outwardly bent flanges 3 to engage the front of the panel adjacent the hole therethrough. The edges of the strut portions 6 and the transverse portion 7 are bent up to form stiffening flanges 8. Cutouts 11, (12) are provided in the sides of the element between the various portions to leave weaker hinge parts. The edge of the hole (9) may have a radial slit (10). More than two legs may be provided.
