Abstract

1536876 Multi - layered foamed sheets LEUNA WERKE WALTER ULBRIGHT VEB 1 Dec 1975 [5 Dec 1974] 49251/75 Heading C3C [Also in Division B5] A flexible multi-layered foamed plastics sheet comprises at least 3 jointless layers having different structures and density, the first layer being non-foamed or foamed to a lesser extent than the second and third layers the third layer being foamed and of lower density than the first layer and the second layer being foamed and more having pores and a lower density than the first and third layers. The foamed sheet may consist of a compressed surface layer 1 (Fig. 1) an expanded foamed layer 2 and a foamed layer 3 and may be made by supplying a foamed sheet 5 (Fig. 3) past an infra-red heater 6 to melt the surface of 5 and expand the lower layer and then to rolls 7 where, the expanded foamed layer having been cooled, only the surface layer is compressed In Example (1) a foamed sheet of a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate and polyethylene was treated as above and in examples (2) and (3) foamed sheets of ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers with another such copolymer or polyethylene were made into laminates while being treated as above.
