Abstract

1535812 Magnetic heads PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 June 1976 [18 June 1975] 24687/76 Heading G5R A magnetic head has a one-piece non-magnetic housing 1 having a coil-receiving cavity 6 opening into a rear face 7 thereof opposite a record medium-contacting front face 5 and C- core receiving slots 10, 11 extending in respective side faces of the housing and each opening at one end into the cavity 6 and at the other end into the front face 5, slots 10, 11 and cavity 6 being accessible from the outside of the housing. A single track erase head has a glass fibrereinforced synthetic resin housing 1 with the rear parts 20 of C-cores 15 engaging in a central opening 21 of coil 14 and the front parts 22 abutting against a gap-forming spacer 13 integral with housing 1. Housing 1 also has integrally formed therewith a tape guide 25, projections 4 to mount the head on a support by means of screws received in slots 3, and pins 23 around which the coil ends 24 are wound and at which soldered connections to coil 14 are made. Guide 25 may alternatively be a separate part received in another aperture in the housing 1. Cores 15 and coil 14 are secured in the housing 1 by a flexible adhesive. An alternative head, Fig. 4 (not shown), has a central I-core (57) between two C-cores (52), a front part of the I-core (57) projecting to the tape contact face (35) through an aperture (56) in the housing part (42) between face (35) and coil cavity (36), a central part of I-core (57) carrying the coil (44), rear ends (50) of C-cores (45) abutting the rear end of the I-core, and two gap-forming spacers (43) integral with the housing being sandwiched between the I-core (57) and front parts (52) of respective C-cores (45). Multitrack heads may be similarly produced.
