Abstract

1535047 Leak testing window seals CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 2 July 1976 [31 July 1975] 32095/75 Heading G1N A method of testing the liquid tightness of a dry glazing strip 12 for a vehicle windscreen 11 comprises the steps of; disposing a first electrode 18 adjacent one side of the strip disposing at least one second electrode 21 in a rebate (15) Fig. 3 (not shown) for housing the glazing strip the, or each, second electrode being electrically insulated from the first by insulating tape (21c); connecting a source of electric potential via leads 24, 25 between the first and the, or each, second electrode; delivering an electrically conductive liquid e.g. water to the one side of the strip and the first electrode and detecting any flow of electric current through the water between the first and second electrode(s). Preferably each second electrode consists in a pair of electrodes 21a, b of which the former extends nearer the edge of the seal than does the latter. Each electrode 21 connects via its respective lead 24 to a pair of switching transistors (29, 30) Fig. 4 (not shown) conduction of which initiates light emission from a respective diode (31). The order of light emission is utilized to locate leaks.
