Abstract
1534037 Gas vent for battery GOULD Inc 11 Feb 1976 [12 Feb 1975] 05288/76 Heading H1B A gas vent for an electric storage cell comprises a body portion 15a for insertion into a vent opening of the cell, the body portion having an aperture 45a therein for the escape of gas from within the cell, a closure member 19a reeasably engaging the body portion, a porous body 24a between an upper end portion of the body portion 15a and closure member 19a, and means 50 for maintaining a gap between the closure member and the porous body sufficient to allow gases within the cell to escape through the porous body while retarding the entry of a flame into said gap. The body 15a may be of moulded plastics; body 24a may be polypropylene, polyethylene or a fluorocarbon polymer; closure 19a may be elongated and hold a plurality of bodies 15a; these are snapfitted into 19a by co-operating members 23a and 30a; where a plurality of bodies are used, members 50 may extend as far as walls 20a, as in Fig. 3 (not shown). The body 15a has a splash guard 36a above orifice 45a and a funnel 37a for returning electrolyte to the cell.
