Abstract
1533905 Removal of pollutant material from gas streams LONE STAR STEEL CO 22 Nov 1976 [28 Nov 1975] 48646/76 Heading B1R Pollutant material is removed from a gas stream by mixing the stream with a liquid in a mixing zone so as to encapsulate the pollutant in liquid droplets, directing the mixture containing the droplets from the mixing zone into a diverging diffuser zone of gradually increasing cross-sectional area defined by an inner surface having opposed diverging surface portions and deflecting the flow of the mixture as it enters the diffuser zone away from one of the opposed diverging surface portions toward the other of the opposed diverging surface portions to cause de-entrainment of the droplets from the mixture. The mixture may be deflected by .forming a curtain of fluid material transversely of the diffusing zone so as to be in the flow path of the mixture and/or by interposing a plate to intercept the flow of a portion of the mixture.
