Abstract
1532751 Easy-open can ends AMERICAN CAN CO 3 June 1977 [5 Oct 1976] 23628/77 Heading B8D A can end 10 has a push-in closure element or tab 26 sealed to the underside of the can end by a solidified plastisol sealant 34 requiring an application of 10 to 20 lbs. of force, preferably 13 to 17 lbs. of force, to the tab to effect rupture of the sealant. The closure tab is preferably formed in one-piece with the metal can end and connected thereto by a hinge portion 28. The plastisol sealant, preferably a blend of polyvinyl chloride homopolymers and polyvinyl chloride-polyvinyl acetate copolymers, is applied to the can end in a quantity of 60-110 milligrams/in., which is then heated at 455‹ F. for 26 sees., the plastisol being such as to have a tensile strength of 260 to 425 lb./in.<SP>2</SP>, preferably 300 to 370 lb./in.<SP>2</SP>, a percentage elongation of 275 to 375%, and a tear strength of 40 to 60 lb./in.
