Abstract

1531652 Strings for athletic rackets and musical instruments; braids ASHAWAY LINE & TWINE MFG CO 22 Jan 1977 02684/77 Headings D1K and D1T A string, that may be used for athletic rackets and musical instruments, comprises a thermoplastic core, a first coating on the core of a cured cationic lubricating agent, and a second coating comprising a thermoplastic resin that is bonded to the first coating. The core may be a monofilament or a plurality of filaments twisted or braided together and may, for example, be of nylon polyester, fiberglass or aramid fibers. The second coating is preferably a nylon formulation. One or more monofilaments, preferably of nylon, may be spiral wrapped around said second coating and further coatings of said thermoplastic resin may then be applied to give the string a smooth outer finish. Other forms of wrap or even braiding may be used in place of the spiral wrap. The trade names of several suitable cationic lubricating agents are quoted.
