1531554 Mode selecting in magnetic tape apparatus TECHNICAL Inc 21 April 1976 [29 May 1975] 16196/76 Heading G5R In a magnetic tape recording and playback machine, a fast forward 24 and a rewind 18 selector key can be manually moved to select the corresponding mode while a playback selector key 21 remains locked in its operative position, and such movement of key 24 or 18 acts via a lever 107 or 106 respectively to shift a plate 32 and thus withdraw a magnetic head 33 thereon away from the tape 86 and to also withdraw a pinch roller 88 from a capstan 87. Pushing playback key 21 in acts via spring 35 to slide plate 32 so that head 33 engages the tape 86, and via a projection 114 on plate 32 allows a spring (not shown) to press roller 88 against capstan 87, a hook 77 on a spring biased locking plate 72 holding key 21 in the playback position. Record is selected by pushing keys 21 and 12 in together, record key 21 being locked in by a projection 101 on a pivoted plate 94 biased by spring 98. Rewind 18 and fast forward 24 keys are lockable in their actuated position by hooks 70, 78 on locking plate 72. Rewind and fast forward can be selected straight from playback and record, but in this case the interengagement of playback key 21 with hook 77 on plate 72 prevents keys 18, 24 being locked by the plate 72. Stop key 28 can be pressed to release any key locked by plate 72, return of playback key 21 by its spring 54 causing projection 21a of key 21 to return head plate 32, a projection 93 on plate 32 pivoting plate 94 to release the record key 12 if that had been operated. Keys 12, 18, 21 and 24 operate switches 121, 123, 126, 127 respectively.
