Abstract
1530897 Cooling dynamo-electric machines LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Nov 1975 [17 Oct 1974] 45137/74 Heading H2A In a dynamo-electric machine having electric conductors disposed in passages in a support body, each passage 13 houses a single conductor, e.g. 21 or 22, surrounded by a baffle 24 which serves to insulate the conductor from the body and also defines a path for cooling oil flowing along the passage. The stator assembly shown has a slotted, laminated magnetic core 11, each slot being closed by an insulating wedge 17 and being divided into two passages by an insulating insert 23. The conductor 21 or 22 in each passage is surrounded by a helically wound insulating filament which defines a helical flow path for the cooling oil between an inlet mid-way along the stator and both axial ends of the stator. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the coolant flows from one axial end of the stator to the other. Rotor windings may be cooled in the same way.
