Abstract

1530682 Producing smooth-finished concrete articles STAMICARBON BV 5 Feb 1976 [8 Feb 1975] 04618/76 Heading B5A A concrete tile or wall panel is produced in a smooth-finished water impervious mould from a concrete mix having a water-to-cement weight ratio between 0À35 and 0À5 and a weight of sand which is not more than three times that of the cement. The mix is compacted to remove air inclusions, and is allowed to set in the mould while preventing loss of moisture from the mix. As described, a mixture of aluminium cement, sand, water, plasticizer, glass fibres, colouring and quartz dust is placed in a mould made or lined with water-impervious polyethylene, polystyrene or PVC and having designs in relief. The mould is vibrated vertically to remove voids, and setting occurs at ambient or elevated temperature and pressure while the mould is covered to prevent moisture loss, or while within an autoclave having an atmosphere saturated with water vapour. The autoclave contains SiF 4 gas, or the set article is immersed in a bath of silico-fluoride.
