Abstract
1529932 Automatic exchange system INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 22 July 1976 [28 July 1975] 30605/76 Heading H4K In a common control telephone exchange a pool of loop extenders is provided which is common to a plurality of subscribers. The common control of the exchange examines the COS of the called and calling lines and if the COS indicates that a loop extender, e.g. a booster battery and/or a VF repeater, is needed in the calling line it generates a signal to enable a selected loop extender to be connected to the calling line. Similarly if the COS of the called line indicates that a loop extender is required in the called line, the common control generates another signal to enable another extender to be connected to the called line. The extenders are connected to the lines at a point situated between the switching matrix of the system and the line switches.
