1529559 Purification of caprolactam BAYER AG 13 Sept 1977 [15 Sept 1976] 38107/77 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the purification of #-caprolactam wherein impure #-caprolactam is treated with potassium permanganate in the presence of from 0À01 to 5% by weight of water, based on the #-caprolactam and subsequently crystallized from toluene, benzene, ethylbenzene or xylene. The quantity of potassium permanganate is preferably controlled so that it is completely reduced in 5 minutes at a temperature of 80‹ C.
