Abstract

1529444 Closures J H KARLAN 9 Oct 1975 41415/75 Addition to 1281929 Heading B8T A closure 10 of flexible thermosetting synthetic material, e.g. ethylene-propylene rubber, comprises inner and outer annular walls 14, 17 depending from a base 13, the inner wall 17 having corrugations 18 which sealingly engage the inner surface of a bottle neck, a pressure relief portion, e.g. a thinned disc 28 or a V- shaped groove on the underside of the base, Fig. 4 (not shown), being provided to burst at a preselected pressure level in the bottle. The outer wall 14 is extended by a skirt 19 joined to the wall 12 at severable junction 20. The closure extended in this manner and a method of applying it and is the subject of Specification 1,529,445. The skirt 19 includes an inner groove 24 to engage bead 21 on the bottle and an external annular shoulder 33 for engagement with a capping tool, Fig. 5 (not shown). The length of the wall 14 and skirt 19 is such that the skirt is stretched axially for engagement with bead 21. Wall 14 engages via groove 15 a bottle thread 16.
