Abstract

1527370 Automatic exchange systems INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 29 Dec 1975 [30 Dec 1974 (5) 26 June 1975] 52960/75 Heading H4K The Specification relates to the network access units, NAU, of the satellite communication system disclosed in American Specification 4,009,343 and the particular emphasis is on the function of the NAU as regards the reordering of information received from the satellite and the generation of a destination oriented VAC mask from the VAC masks transmitted by the branch exchanges 10. A full description of the complete system is given in US. The NAU receives from each branch exchange 10 in each 6 m.s. period a frame comprising a signalling channel, a VAC mask and 46, 24 byte, blocks of telecommunication traffic information. The VAC mask and the traffic bytes for each trunk are received in a respective input buffer INTICS and are then transferred to one of eight storage compartments of traffic buffer 12.2 to be eventually passed to the satellite as a traffic burst. Incoming traffic from the satellite for distribution at the NAU is stored in another partition of the traffic buffer 12.2. The VAC masks are recovered at 12.3 and are used to distinguish channels of traffic information scheduled for handling by the particular NAU 12. The masks are retained and utilized to perform relocational mapping of traffic buffer addresses containing the received traffic information relative to virtual channels of outletassociated digital links to which the information is to be passed. Thereafter the information is processed in virtual channel order to perform a reverse activity comparison when the virtual channel load of any branch digital trunk exceeds the actual link capacity of 46 channels, and also to form a destination-oriented VAC mask for each trunk. The unit utilizes stored programme control. For further details of the NAU and the rest of the system reference is directed to the above Specifications.
