Abstract

1526825 Hydroxy-containing unsaturated diesters REICHHOLD CHEMICALS Ltd 21 Nov 1975 [26 Nov 1974] 47989/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Hydroxy containing unsaturated diesters of the formula wherein R 1 represents (a) an alkyl group of two to six carbon atoms containing one free hydroxyl group; (b) a 2,3-dihydroxypropyl group; or (c) a group of the formula (as explained below) wherein n = 2 or 3, x = 2 or 3, and m is from 1 to 800; and R 2 represents a primary alkyl group of linear or branched configuration containing four to twelve carbon atoms are prepared by reacting together a polyol of formula R 1 OH, a primary alcohol of formula R 2 OH and an acid of formula or an anhydride of such acid, in the presence of para-toluene sulphonic acid as esterification catalyst, in the proportions of 1 mol of polyol of formula R 1 OH, to 1À1 moles of primary alcohol of formula R 2 OH, to 1 mole of acid of formula or anhydride thereof. By way of explanation, when R 1 represents (c) and n or x in the formula thereof is 3, the group -(-CH 2 -) -n or -(-CH 2 -)-may be a straight or branched chain.
