Abstract
1526285 Flexible hose SAMUEL MOORE & CO 6 Nov 1975 [11 Nov 1974] 46083/75 Heading F2P In making a flexible, dimensionally stable, hydraulic hose 10, an extruded self-supporting elastomer core tube 13 is surrounded with biased overlapping reinforcing fibres 12 wound tautly around the core tube to form an angle (a, b) of from 50 to 65 degrees with the longitudinal axis of the core tube, an elastomeric sheath 11 is extruded over the fibres 12 and the hose is then irradiated with ionizing electrons until the core tube and/or sheath is/are no longer thermoplastic, the core tube 13 or sheath 11 prior to irradiation comprises a thermoplastic extrudable halogenated polyethylene (e.g. chlorinated polyethylene), poly(butadiene-acrylonitrile) copolymer or poly(butadiene-acrylonitrile-acrylic acid) terpolymer composition which will crosslink when irradiated. The fibrous reinforcing material 12 may be wound to cover at least 85% of the core tube 13. The core tube may be coated with an adhesive prior to applying the fibres 12 and adjacent layers of fibres may be bonded together.
