Abstract

1526035 Polytriazines BAYER AG 22 July 1976 [24 July 1975] 30593/76 Heading C3R Polytriazines are obtained by polytrimerizing aromatic cyanic acid esters of formula where A is an aromatic radical which may be interrupted by a bridge member and n is 2 to 4, the compound having alkyl and/or phenyl radicals and/or halogen atoms in at least the ortho- and ortho<SP>1</SP>-positions to at least one -OCN group. Prepolymers may be obtained in a first stage of heating the starting materials and cured products obtained by further heating in a second stage, or the polymers may be obtained in a single stage. Catalysts may be present. In Examples polytriazines are obtained from bis- 2,2-(4-cyanato-3,5-dimethyl phenyl)-propane, 2,6-di-tert.-butyl hydroquinone dicyanate, 2,4,6- trimethyl resorcinol dicyanate and 2,3,5,6- tetramethyl hydroquinone dicyanate; the catalysts used are zinc octoate, pyrocatechol, diazabicyclo-(2,2,2)-octane, zinc chloride and tin octoate.
