Abstract
1526026 Gas turbine plant with separate power turbines UNITED TURBINE AB & CO KB 18 March 1976 [1 April 1975] 10856/76 Heading F1G [Also in-Division F2] A gas turbine power plant, for driving the front or rear wheels of a motor vehicle, and with its axis arranged transversely of the vehicle, comprises, on one shaft 12, a compressor 11, driven by a turbine 10, and, on two concentric shafts 23, 24, aligned with 12, first and second power turbines 17, 18, the former, 17, driving through wheel pair 21, 22, intermediate parallel shaft 23, a first clutch-braked forward-neutral-reverse planet gear 50, wheel pair 56, 57, external parallel shaft 58 and wheel pair (60) 59, the planet carrier of a differential gear 45 driving equal-length, jointed, half axle shafts 49. The planet gear comprises an input sum 50 fast in the turbine-driven shaft 23, a ring gear 55 integral with the output wheel 56 and a planet carrier 51 which can be held by a brake 53 for reverse, or connected to input 23 by a clutch 52 for direct forward drive. The shaft 24 of the second power turbine 18 drives, through a wheel pair 25, 29, the planet carrier of a torque-splitting second planet train the sun 33 of which is secured to the intermediate shaft 23 driven by the first power turbine 17, and aligned with an internally housed shaft 34 which is connected through either of two one-way clutches 41, 43 with the sun 33 or ring gear 42 respectively, and is also connected, through a gear train 35 to the compressor-turbine shaft 12. Depending on the load, fuel supply, and the setting of adjustable vanes 27 between the two power turbines 17, 18, or ahead of 11, the second power turbine 18 will thus drive through either or both one-way clutches 41, 43 the intermediate output shaft 23 and/or the shaft 34 geared to the compressor-turbine shaft 12. The vanes 27 are adjusted by a servomotor 28 to govern the power distribution between the turbines. The internal shaft 34 also drives, through a wheel pair 36 and shaft 37, a lubricating pump 38, and, through a worm gear 39, an electric generator and/ or other auxiliary.
