Abstract

1525926 Solar heating L G LITCHFIELD 17 Nov 1975 [6 Nov 1974] 47967/74 Heading F4U A solar panel comprises a container in the form of a bag made from flexible transparent synthetic plastics material within which is contained a dark liquid, the bag being supported on a reflective backing adjacent a base of heat-insulating material. The liquid is preferably water in which is suspended or dissolved a. material to darken the water. The liquid may further include dissolved additives to inhibit degradation and prevent sedimentation. The bag includes internal divisions 11 to create a serpentine flow path 12. As shown, the bag is disposed on a backing sheet of corrugated aluminium 15 in a housing 5 having a heat insulating base 9 and two transparent covering sheets of plastics material 16. The panel may be linked to either a central heating system (Fig. 4, not shown) or a domestic water supply (Fig. 5, not shown).
