Abstract

1525578 Feeding sheets XEROX CORP 29 Oct 1975 [25 Nov 1974 (2)] 44603/75 Heading B8R Sheets are separated from a pile by a friction belt 9, Figs. 1, 2 and 4, or roller mounted adjacent a side wall 7 and slightly inclined so as to register the sheets against the wall, a low-friction gate 25 engaging the edges of the upper sheets to prevent double feed and being urged against the belt by a spring 27, the assembly being supported on a carriage 15 slidable down a guide 17 as the pile diminishes and counter-weighted by a spring 23 and cord 19. The sheets are fed to pairs 40, 41 of feed rollers moving faster than the belt. The roller 41 opposite the belt is smaller than the remaining rollers 41 and its axis is nearer the pile to assist registration. A guide grid 46 pivoted to the shaft of the rollers 40 and having a part 48 resting on the shaft of the belt-driving roller 13 guides the sheets to the roller pairs and moves down as the pile diminishes. A recessed portion 33 of the gate 25 enables a sheet to be fed freely by the rollers 40, 41. The rollers 40, 41 may be stopped so as to act as front register stops.
