Abstract
152,525. McClellan, B. S. Oct. 25, 1919. Channels and reservoirs in crank casings and stuffing-boxes. - The crank-shaft bearings of an ammonia or like compressor are lubricated by oil splashed by the cranks into reservoirs 34 communicating with the bearings 31 by passages 33. A liquid seal to prevent leakage of the compressible fluid consists of a metal ring 39 formed with inner and outer annular grooves 40, 43 connected by radial springs 42. Oil from the reservoir 34 enters the grooves through a passage 44 and compressible fluid leaking along the shaft returns to the crank chamber by the same passage. Packing 45, 46 is placed on both sides of the ring 39.
