Abstract
1524126 Solid electrolytes P R MALLORY & CO Inc 24 May 1976 [11 June 1975] 21383/76 Heading H1B A solid electrolyte for either primary or secondary cells comprises lead fluoride and an alkali metal halide incoporated as a dopant in the lead fluoride lattice. Preferably, the alkali metal halide is KF used in molar proportions with PbF 2 ranging from 1 : 1000 to 1 : 1, respectively. The electrolyte may be used in primary electrochemical cells comprising an anodic active material which does not reduce Pb<SP>2+</SP> to Pb, and a cathodic active material of either heavy metal fluoride (e.g.: AgF, AgF 2 , PbF 4 , CuF 2 , HgF 2 ) and either fluorine absorbed on carbon or gaseous fluorine. Typical secondary cells in which the solid electrolyte may be incorporated consist, in the discharged state, of the couples: C/PbF 2 (KF doped)/Ag; Pb/PbF 2 (KF doped)/Ag; Pb/PbF 2 (KF doped)/Cu; C/PbF 2 (KF doped)/Cu; C/PbF 2 (KF doped)/C.
