Abstract
1523280 Headlamp tilting device LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 25 Nov 1975 [21 Dec 1974] 55339/74 Heading F4R A motor vehicle headlamp tilting mechanism comprises a cable 17 connecting a headlamp 11, via linkages 15, 20 and a motion reducing device 21, to a member 18 secured to a live axle housing 12 so that the cable moves in response to torque changes on the housing 12 due to vehicle acceleration, the cable 17 also being in sliding abutment with an element 22 fixed to the vehicle body 10 so that the effective length of the cable 17 changes in response to loading changes on the body 10. The headlamp 11 is thus tilted by the cable 17 according to changes in either loading or acceleration but a damper (28) (Fig. 2, not shown) does not permit rotation of a common headlamp mounting rod 15 due to_ rapid cable movements, e.g. from wheel bounce. In another arrangement the rod 15 is omitted and each headlamp is provided with such a tilting device.
