Abstract

1521534 Dyeing aromatic polyester material IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 March 1976 [25 March 1975] 12423/75 Heading D1B Aromatic polyester textile materials are coloured by applying to the textile material by aqueous dyeing, padding or printing processes a disperse monoazo dye free from sulphuric acid and carboxylic acid groups and which has the formula: or any tautomer thereof, the dyeing being after treated in aqueous media at a pH above 8 between 50‹ and 85‹C; in the dyes as above, A is phenyl or phenyl which contains at least one substituent selected from chlorine, bromine, nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, thiocyano, lower (C 1 to C,) alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylcarbonyl, lower alkylsulphonyl, lower alkylcarbonylamino, carbamoyl and N-lower alkyl and NN-di lower alkyl derivatives thereof, sulphamoyl and N-lower alkyl and NN'- di lower alkyl derivatives thereof, sulphamate and N-lower alkyl and NN'-di lower alkyl derivatives thereof, lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkoxy-lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkoxy-lower alkoxy-lower alkoxycarbonyl, hydroxy-lower alkoxycarbonyl, hydroxy-lower alkoxy-lower alkoxycarbonyl and lower alkoxy carbonyl-lower alkyl, X is hydrogen, lower alkyl, carbamoyl, cyano, chlorine, bromine, nitroso, nitro, lower alkylcarbamoyl, sulphamoyl, lower alkyl sulphonyl, lower alkyl carbonylamino or lower alkoxy carbonyl and Z is hydrogen or lower alkyl, and subsequently treating at a pH above 8, at 50‹ to 85‹C in an aqueous alkaline bath which is free from reducing agent. Polyester fibres blended with cellulose or polyamide fibres may be dyed by continuous processes.
