Abstract

1519901 Envelope flap moistening apparatus PITNEY BOWES INC 25 Feb 1976 [10 March 1975 (2)] 07490/76 Heading B2L An envelope flap moistening apparatus has means for moving envelopes E through the machine, an endless belt extending into a reservoir 82 of moistening liquid and moving so as to transfer moisture therefrom and a contoured finger 60 for urging the envelope flaps against the belt. Contoured finger 60 is spring-loaded at 66 and shaped so as to hold only the gummed part of the flap F against the belt. The belt is mounted on pulleys as shown, pulley 34 being mounted on a pivoted spring-loaded lever to tension the belt; the whole of the belt/finger assembly is pivotally mounted (not shown) near its top so that the reservoir 82 can be withdrawn for refilling; a first cam surface 86 acts on cam-follower 25 to raise the assembly as 82 is withdrawn (into paper, as shown) and a second surface 88 acts on 25 to lower the belt back into the liquid as 82 is replaced. The means for mounting reservoir 82 is described in detail with reference to Figs. 2 to 5 and 7 and 8' (not shown).
