Abstract

1519593 Grouping bottles on a conveyer belt UNITED GLASS Ltd 10 Sept 1975 [12 Sept 1974] 39792/74 Heading B8A Articles such as bottles are formed into groups of a predetermined number on a conveyer, by the,actuation of a control arm 4 (which may be of the kind claimed in Specification 1,509,542; or as described in Specification 1,226,324), in conjunction with an article speed-reducing device 6. The latter may a star wheel connected to a rotary dashpot. As shown, two arrangements according to the invention are used to control the article flow on respective conveyers 1, 2, which combine their flow at 5. There is an interconnection link between the arms 4, so arranged that only one arm 4 at a time can be in an open (article flow permitting) position. In operation, the mechanism of each arm 4 is adjusted so that the arms remains in its closed position until a number of articles equal to the predetermined number, has backed up against the arm. It then opens, and allows the predetermined number of articles to pass through. Due to the retarding action of the starwheel 6, the next article is restrained from joining the articles in the previous group and this allows time for the arm 4 to swing back to its closed position. A second group then commences to build-up behind the arm 4, and so on.
