Abstract

1519058 Selective Signalling ARTHUR D LITTLE Inc 16 July 1975 [17 July 1974 1 July 1975] 29921/75 Heading G4H [Also in Division H4] Digital intelligence is transmitted by combining an intelligence waveform with a carrier waveform (e.g. power wave for remote metering or switching) so as to modify the timing of occurrence of parts of the carrier (e.g. zerocrossings) and produce a composite waveform in which the intelligence is conveyed and detected by the variations in intervals between preselected locations of the composite wave. The composite wave shown dotted has "quatrain" sequences of increased, unchanged, decreased, unchanged durations between successive zero-crossings which is detected (Fig. 4, not shown) by counting the quatrains in a 2-bit counter (36) to gate 1 MHz clock pulses to an up-down counter (40) thereby recovering the intelligence for temporary storage (52), bits being subtracted from counter (40) at the end of each quatrain to discriminate against noise.
