Abstract

1517819 Producing white or grey cements SOC DES CIMENTS FRANCAIS 17 Nov 1976 [17 Nov 1975] 47869/76 Addition to 1,090,539 Heading C1H [Also in Division F4] Clinkers of white or grey cements are produced by preheating unfired clays so as to decarbonate them at approximately 850‹C, introducing the decarbonated clays into a roasting kiln at 1450‹C and then cooling in two distinct phases, namely a first phase in which the roasted material is cooled to approximately 700‹C by means of a flow of air to act as combustion-supporting air for the roasting kiln burner and a second phase in which the roasted material is cooled from 700‹C to ambient temperature during which the clinker coloured during the first phase is either cooled in order to produce grey cement clinker, or reheated to 800‹ to 1200‹C and then cooled in the absence of air, i.e. either in water or water vapour or in a neutral or reducing atmosphere in order to produce white cement clinker. An installation for carrying out the above process comprises a preheating and decarbonation unit 1 connected to a roasting kiln 3 which is in turn, connected to a first cooler 4, a second cooler 7, a heating kiln 8 connected to a cooling device 12 adapted to cool clinker in the absence of air i.e. either in water or water vapour or in a neutral or reducing atmosphere and a guiding device 5 situated at the outlet of the first cooler 4 and adapted to direct clinkers either towards the second cooler 7 or towards the heater 8, means being provided for supplying cooling air from the first cooler 4 as combustion-supporting air to the roasting kiln 3.
