1517151 Pivotal mountings AARDEE SPRING & LOCK CO Ltd 9 June 1975 [8 March 1974] 9432/74 Heading E2F A pivotal mounting for doors and like members which serve to close access openings is designed to facilitate the prevention and detection of unauthorised entry or exit and comprises a frame mounting member 3 (as shown secured to the top 2' of a frame), a door mounting member 13 (as shown secured to the top edge of a door 1), and a removable spindle 8 which has an internal bore 9 to receive an electrical conductor. The spindle engages mounting member 13 to move with the door and is arranged to actuate a switch 21 on member 3. A square cross-section end portion 12 of the spindle locates in the member 13 and a screw 10 releasably fixes the spindle to a sleeve 5 which is rotatable in member 3 and has a flange 7 to prevent upward movement. A collar 16 is releasably fixed to the sleeve 5 by screw 17 and carries a screw 18 which can operate switch 21 via a lever 19; the arrangement being such that opening movement of the door releases the switch to indicate to a monitoring system. A lock on the door may be provided with a switch connected by an electrical conductor to the monitoring system via a channel within the door and the bore 9. A steel bearing 14 is freely rotatable on the portion of the spindle exposed between the mounting members to protect it from cutting means. To dismount the door: screw 10 is released, the spindle 8 is withdrawn upwardly and the door is tilted out of the frame about a lower pivot-Fig. 9. The lower pivot shown a spindle 35 is mounted in a bearing 37 and two balls 39 allow this bearing to tilt to allow removal of the door from the frame. In another embodiment of lower pivot (Fig. 6 not shown) a pivot with a part spherical upper surface is mounted on the floor and projects into a recess in the door to engage a part spherical recess. The door engages against sealing ribs which are either removably secured to the frame (Figs. 4, 5 not shown) or are integrally formed with removable frame sections (Figs. 7, 8 not shown). In the latter arrangement the top frame section is hollow to receive the monitoring system and mounting means and is closed by a removable plate. Specification 1517152 has an identical disclosure but has claims directed towards a mounted door with switch means on the spindle and monitoring means on the lock.
