Abstract

1516558 Damp proof compositions COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 26 April 1977 [21 May 1976] 21044/76 Headings C3M and C3N Damp proof compositions comprise (1) at least 5% of halobutyl rubber, (2) 5-45% pitch and (3) at least 5% of filler. The filler may be particulate, fibrous or a mixture thereof, and the compositions may contain supplementary polymers, processing aids, plasticizers and lubricants. The preferred pitch is coal tar pitch of softening point 100-110‹ C. Examples describe compositions comprising chlorobutyl rubber, coaltar pitch and carbon black together with (1) nitrile rubber, PVC, cotton/terylene fibres, whiting and polyethylene wax, (2) chlorinated polyethylene, cotton/terylene fibres, china clay and epoxidized soya oil, (3) nitrile rubber, PVC, chlorosulphonated polyethylene, terylene fibre, whiting and chlorinated paraffin and (14) nitrile rubber, chlorinated polyethylene, chopped PVC conveyor belting, china clay, epoxidized soya oil and stearic acid. The compositions may be moulded to form roof sheets and flashings.
