Abstract

151,647. Szakats, G. Oct. 25, 1917, [Convention date]. Machine guns.-Consists in feeding cartridges to the gun chamber by removing them vertically from a belt by grippers, the cartridges rising into line with the chamber as they are pushed forwards along inclines on the grippers. In the form shown, a cartridge belt 15 and its cartridges 14 are supported between radial teeth 2, 3 on a feedwheel 1 which serves to guide the belt through the gun. Between each set of teeth are mounted pivoted jaws 4, 5 having projections 11 which grip a cartridge as it passes to the top of the wheel and force it radiallv from the belt. As the cartridge. is fed forwards into the gun, it rises into line with the chamber owing to the engagement of its rim 14 with inclines 12 leading to horizontal guides 13. The jaws are carried by spindles 16 journaled in the feed-wheel, one end of each spindle carrying an arm 6 and roller 7. The rollers 7 engage cam-grooves 8 in non-rotary disks at each end of the feed-wheel. The belt is formed of two wire. ropes 15<1> connected at intervals by rigid crosspieces 15 carrying resilient clips 15<11>.
