Abstract
1515922 Apparatus for teeming molten metal OFFICINE MECCANICHE DANIELI & C SpA 4 June 1975 24186/75 Heading F4B Apparatus for teeming molten metal along the same flow axis into a mould comprises a vessel 14 with a discharge nozzle 18 and a rotary valve mechanism 12, the moving parts of which rotate about an axis AA to start and stop the teeming of metal. The invention can be used with water cooled moulds for the vertical continuous casting process. The valve 12 comprises a fixed base assembly 20 with a circular refractory disc 33, a valve support assembly 22 secured by spring subassemblies 60 and set screws 65 to the base assembly, and a rotary closure assembly 24 with a disc shaped refractory plate 40 rotatably mounted in the valve support assembly 22 and driven by a mechanism 26. The spring assemblies 60 spring load the plate 40 against the disc 33 in fluid tight engagement. The plate 40 has an inclined bore 45 which communicates with and is aligned with the bore 32 of the disc 33 when the closure assembly 24 is in the fully open position. The lower end of the bore 45 permanently communicates with the bore 52 of a collector nozzle 50 that is attached to and moves with the closure assembly 24. The bore 52 is on the axis of A-A which forms the central axis of the rotary valve 12, so that when the closure assembly 24 is rotated the nozzle 50 rotates with it around the axis A-A. For operating the rotary discharge valve 12 from the closed position, the drive mechanism 26 is actuated to rotate the closure plate 40 over the surface of the stationary disc 33 so that the top end of the bore 45 is brought into communication with the bore 32 of the stationary disc 33. A heat shield 91 may be fitted to the support assembly 22 to protect the valve mechanism.
