Abstract

1515800 Motor vehicle fuel tanks GENERAL MOTORS CORP 21 Dec 1976 [22 Jan 1976] 53235/76 Heading B7H A device for ensuring a supply of fuel to the suction pipe 10 of a fuel pump when the fuel level in the fuel tank of a motor vehicle is low comprises within the main tank enclosure a reservoir compartment 8 in which a higher fuel level is maintained by excess fuel from the pump returning to the compartment through a venturi 20 together with fuel drawn into the venturi from the main enclosure through a bore 28, a non-return valve 30 preventing the fuel returning to the main enclosure from the compartment 8 when the pump is not operating so that fuel is immediately available for restarting the vehicle. The non-return valve 8 is in the form of a flap having a hole 34 which is pressed over a deformable stop member 36 during assembly.
