Circular machines. - An emergency device is provided to feed a supplementary yarn automatically upon the breakage or excessive tension of the main yarn and thereby prevent a press-off The pivoted or slidable feed member 1 for the supplementary yarn 12 is normally held out of action by a detent 16 on a pin 17, on the other end of which is a two-armed projection 23, 24. The upper arm 23 is within reach of the lower arm 21 of a tumbler 20, the upper end of which is normally held in place by the main knitting yarn 7. When the yarn 7 breaks or runs tight, the tumbler 20 falls over in the direction of the arrow and its lower end strikes the arm 23 and rocks the detent 16, thereby allowing the member 1 to drop into yarn-feeding position. The member 1 carries the detent 16 down with it, and thus causes the arm 24 to move upward and re-set the tumbler 20. While the member 1 is out of action, the end of .the yarn 12 is held by a spring clamp 11. When the member 1 is dropped into feeding position, the part of the yarn 12 which bridges the space between the clamp 11 and an eve 14 is laid across the line of needles and the end of the yarn is drawn out of the clamp by the action of the needles which thereupon draw yarn from the eye 14 through an open guide 25 in the latch guard 4. The member 1 may also operate a stop-motion.
