Abstract

To improve the compatibility and mechanical strength, the joint prosthesis essentially consists of carbon reinforced with carbon fibres and has a modulus corresponding to the modulus of elasticity of the bone tissue. Compliance with this virtually rules out loosening of the prosthesis caused by resorption or other changes in the tissue. To improve adhesion of the prosthesis, a part of the prosthesis is provided with a layer of glass ceramic, and the part of the prosthesis which is designed as sliding surface has a layer of packed sintered aluminium oxide as means to reduce wear.
