Abstract

1512321 Dyeing cellulose material IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Dec 1976 [5 Jan 1976] 00188/76 Heading D1B Cellulose textile material is coloured by applying in either order (a) a dyestuff containing one or more phosphorus acid groups, together with adjuncts necessary to ensure reaction of the dye with cellulose, (b) to part of the area covered by (a) a composition having actual or potential alkalinity as defined, such that in the areas where both (a) and (b) are present on the textile material there is at least sufficient actual or potential alkalinity to produce a net alkalinity and heating to cause the dyestuff outside the areas to react with the cellulose, preferably heating is in steam at 130-200‹C or in air at 150- 220‹C. The composition containing alkali or which has potential alkalinity may be in the form of a print paste thickened with ammonium alginate. Adjuncts necessary may be dicyandiamide, pH adjusters and/or an ammonium or volatile amine salt. Blends of cellulose and polyethylene terephthalate may be treated in which case a disperse dye is mixed with the dye having phosphorus acid groups.
