Abstract
1511099 Nitriding FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 18 Nov 1976 [15 Dec 1975] 48212/76 Heading C7U Metal parts are nitrided by packing them in a stable granular medium which has impregnated with an aqueous solution of urea or a urea-derived substance in controlled concentration, followed by heating for a time sufficient to provide the desired case depth. Preferred media are vermiculite, charcoal, porous clay or ceramic, and nitriding conditions are 925-1050‹F for 4-24 hours.
