Abstract

1509622 Seaming non-metallic sheet material EX-CELL-O CORP 19 March 1975 32370/77 Divided out of 1509621 Heading B5K Sealing strips 18, 22, 25, Fig. 1, of a thermoplastics coated paperboard container 1 are sealed together after folding in the flaps 6, 7, 8, 9 at the end of the container at a welding station, Fig. 15, including an anvil 114 and a vibration welding means 46. The containers are fed in turn to the welding station by a conveyer 54 and each operates a switch 123 causing (i) the horn 120 of the welding apparatus to advance and press the sealing strips 26 against the surface 116 of the anvil (ii) the horn 120 to vibrate and create sufficient heat to weld the sealing strips together, (iii) the horn to cease vibration while maintaining pressure until the thermoplastics material has set, and (iv) withdrawal of the horn. The surface 116 of the anvil may have recesses to cater for variations in the thickness of the sealing strips or may include a resiliently mounted plate.
