Abstract
150,957. Schaeffer, E. Sept. 9, 1919, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A gas-discharge lamp is structurally combined with a step-up transformer. In the lamp shown in Fig. 1, a primary coil b connected to contacts g, h is wound over a laminated iron core a sealed to the stem i, and over it is wound a secondary coil c connected to electrode sleeves d, e. The core a may be closed on itself by a yoke, or its constituent wires may be bent apart at the poles as in a hedgehog transformer. The lamp is preferably filled with one of the rare gases of the atmosphere. When the rise of voltage required is small, the circuits may be connected as shown in Fig. 2, in which m, n are the mains, q, r the primary and secondary coils respectively, and s, t the electrodes. The primary voltage may be 100 and the secondary voltage 200.
