Abstract

1509541 Washing textiles MATHER & PLATT Ltd 27 May 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 9222/74 Heading D1L An apparatus for washing textiles after mercerising comprises, as shown in Fig. 2, a stenter frame 8 for carrying and stretching the textile fabric beneath weirs 1 fed with washing water and elongate suction chambers 10 placed so that the leading edge of each chamber is directly below its corresponding weir 1. The weirs 1 and suction chambers 10 are set parallel to each other and pivoted on support 3 so that the perpendicular distance between their ends can be adjusted to correspond to the width of fabric being washed. The suction is adjusted so that the washing water from the weir completely floods the area covered by the suction chamber, this results in faster and/or more complete washing of the caustic from the fabric.
