1509065 Piggeries R S WHITE 3 April 1975- [3 April 1974 27 Nov 1974] 13690/75 Heading AIM A piggery comprises two-tiered rows of cells 4-11 arranged in a shed 1-3, each cell housing a single pig in an upper compartment 12 which has a slatted floor 16, of fibre board impregnated with plastics and reinforced with wood or metal laths 17, to drain liquid excreta down to a lower compartment 13 open at its front 14 and having an inclined plastics bottom board 22 to drain the liquid to a rear opening and thence into a drain 27 which will overflow into a bed of gravel 28 situated below the piggery shed. The front of the upper compartment 12 can be removed, is of wire mesh and supports a feed trough 20, though automatic feeding could be used instead. Solid dung is scraped manually from the boards 22 via front openings 14 of the lower compartments 13. Individual housing prevents fighting and allows equal feeding opportunity. Controllable ventilation apertures are located low down in the side walls of the shed and louvres 41 are provided on the ridge of the roof.
