Abstract

1507977 Tunnel linings MOTT HAY & ANDERSON 24 March 1975 [27 March 1974] 13630/74 Heading E1F A tunnel lining has a portion built on the "expanded" principle, Fig. 5, and a portion built on the "bolted/grouted" principle, Fig. 7, and the lining rings of both portions are constructed in the main from identical segments 0, S2. The expanded rings are expanded against the tunnel wall by means of wedge blocks W inserted between segments S2 and tapered reaction blocks P1. The bolted rings are constructed under the cover of a protective tail (15), Fig. 2 (not shown), of a tunnelling shield (14), the ring being completed by the insertion of a key block instead of the wedge blocks W. The bolted rings are of smaller diameter than the expanded rings and the surrounding annular space is filled with grout or other material.
