Abstract

1507815 Combustion equipment for gas turbine engines; flame igniters V G KUZMETSOV AG TOMILIN and I A SHLEENKOV 28 Jan 1977 03500/77 Headings FIG and F1L [Also in Division F4] A flame igniter for the combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine comprises a housing 2 secured to the air casing 20 of the combustion chamber, a fuel injector 3 comprising a spray nozzle 9 being mounted on housing 2. A spark-plug 12 is mounted in the housing 2 such that its discnarge zone 13 contacts the conical spray of fuel from the injector. The flame igniter comprises also a cylindrical member 17 which defines the combustion zone I, air being supplied into the igniter through openings 16 in sleeve member 15 and opening 25 in a further sleeve member 21. The sleeve member 21 is disposed around the spark discharge region 13 of the spark-plug, the open end of the sleeve being inclined at an angle parallel to the angle of the conical spray of fuel when at a minimum. A plate member 23 of semicircular form is mounted on the end of the sleeve, the lower edge of the plate being recessed at 24 in the region of the discharge end of the spark-plug.
