Abstract
1507268 Temperature alarms WORMALD INTERNATIONAL Ltd 10 Aug 1976 [11 Aug 1975] 33311/76 Heading G4N A temperature alarm comprises a housing 13, 15, 17 having a heat conductive portion 13, and an electrical integrated circuit chip 14 within the housing and in heat transfer relationship with the portion 15, the chip 14 incorporating a thermally responsive semi-conductor element for deriving a temperature dependent analogue signal and means for processing said signal to provide an alarm signal both when said signal exceeds a predetermined value or when said signal increases in value at a rate in excess of a predetermined rate. As shown in Fig. 3, the housing has two heat resistant portions 15 and 17 respectively enclosing the legs 16 of the chip 14 and a circuit board 18 which mounts any components external of the chip, e.g. adjusting resistors. The circuitry shown in Fig. 2 consists of a voltage regulator 10, an amplifier 5 which incorporates the semiconductor element 4, e.g. a transistor or a diode and which provides the analogue signal V temp , a comparator 7 which compares the signal V temp with a reference signal and the output signal of a R-C differentiating circuit 8 with another reference signal, and an SCR switch 9 which is triggered by the output of the comparator 7 to reduce the impedance across supply lines 3 and thus signal an alarm condition. An adjustment unit 12, e.g. a resistor is provided for biasing the amplifier 5, and a safeguard device 11, e.g. a diode, is provided to ensure correct connection of the applied voltage.
