Abstract

For the early detection of the faulty feeding of a printing copy (D), the position thereof on the transporting cylinder (5) is scanned visually by a stationary photocell control device (6) and a member (4), e.g. a reflector or a mirror, which is secured on the transporting cylinder (5) between the grippers of a gripper row. The length of the member (4) in the circumferential direction corresponds to the permissible tolerance for the position of the beginning of the printing copy on the transporting cylinder (5); the uncovered part (b) of the member (4) is scanned and a corresponding actual pulse number (b') is produced therefrom which is compared with a reference pulse number, e.g. corresponding to the central position of the printing copy on the member (4). The difference between the actual pulse number and the reference pulse number is used for regulating the machine, if appropriate also for shutting it down. <IMAGE>
